Backblock Rural Shipping Rates is operated by Backblock for New Zealand Shopify merchants. Contact: [email protected].
What we process
- Shop domain and app installation/session data required by Shopify OAuth.
- Shopify billing status and subscription metadata.
- App configuration such as the merchant's own New Zealand base and rural shipping rates, app-owned delivery profile IDs, and publication history.
- Delivery address country, province/state, postcode, street address lines, and city transiently inside the Shopify Delivery Customization Function during checkout.
- GDPR/privacy webhook audit records with minimal processing evidence.
What we do not store
Backblock Rural does not store buyer delivery addresses for checkout classification. The checkout Function receives delivery country, province/state, postcode, street address lines, and city from Shopify during checkout and returns delivery-option hide decisions. Street and city text is checked transiently for a numbered New Zealand Rural Delivery route; address data is not written to the Backblock app database.
Backblock Rural does not store payment card details. App billing is handled by Shopify.
How we use data
We use data to authenticate merchants, confirm billing eligibility, create and update app-owned shipping rates using the base and rural rates the merchant enters, classify delivery addresses as rural or urban, hide inapplicable app-owned delivery rates, respond to Shopify privacy webhooks, and diagnose setup/support issues.
Sharing and retention
We do not sell personal data. Data is shared only with service providers required to run the app and with Shopify through Shopify's app platform, APIs, billing, delivery profiles, Functions, and webhook systems.
Shop configuration, publication history, and billing metadata are retained while the app is installed, and for a short operational period after uninstall unless deletion is required sooner. Uninstalling is not itself the deletion step: when a merchant uninstalls, Shopify notifies us, we mark the shop as uninstalled and stop operating on it. Shopify then sends the shop/redact privacy webhook — typically at least 48 hours later — and that is when we erase the shop's data. We also respond to Shopify's customers/data_request and customers/redact webhooks within Shopify's required timelines. GDPR/privacy webhook audit records, kept only to prove privacy requests were received and processed, are redacted of identifying details before storage and retained for 90 days.
Website analytics
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, does not track people across sites, and does not build visitor profiles. It records the page requested, referrer, and coarse technical details such as country, browser, and operating system, all derived from the request itself. This applies to the backblock.app website only, not to the Shopify app inside a merchant's admin or to checkout.
